Abstract

This research aims to analyze the transition from the first book of Hegel's Science of Logic (The Doctrine of Being) to the second one (The Doctrine of Essence). One of the guidelines of this project is the thesis from Dieter Henrich, exposed in his article Hegels Logik der Reflexion. There Henrich defends that Being emerges from Essence, and that this relation of retrospective implication between these two doctrines of the Logic is shown in the last chapter of The Doctrine of Being, since the resolution of the category of Indifference can only be fully understood through the light of the first categories of the second book. Since there are many commentators with different positions about that topic (one of them is McTaggart, who believes there should be a direct transition from Indifference to Identity, and who's position is directly questioned by Henrich), we intend to confront some of them with Hegel's texts so that we can formulate a position about which one of them seems to be more consistent.
