Abstract

The doctoral research at Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo of the University of Sao Paulo (FAU-USP) investigates audiovisual installations exhibited at biennials of contemporary art, with emphasis on the Sao Paulo Biennial and the Venice Biennale. The study analyzes both the transit of moving images to the exhibition environment, considering the exhibition design and the curatorial discourse, and the passage from televisive monitors, attached to videoart, to audiovisual projections in space. The research project to be developed at the Universita Iuav di Venezia proposes the investigation of audiovisual installations in five editions of the Venice Biennale, from 1999 to 2009. The beginning of the 2000s, with a significative improvement in digital technology, was a fertile period for artists working with the audiovisual medium. Thus, the research intents to analyze the modes of production of those artists, as well as the ways in which these works were exhibited, seeking to comprehend the specificities of the works in this model of large- scale temporary exhibition.
