Abstract

Surfactant-free nanostructured systems have pharmacotechnical and biopharmaceutical advantages, being a green process. One of the bioproducts that can be applied to these systems are cellulose nanocrystals (NCC), derived from bacterial cellulose. Bacterial cellulose is produced extracellular by the bacterium Gluconacetobacter xylinus. It is an easily produced, non-toxic, biocompatible bioproduct with high chemical purity, crystallinity and low cost. Due to all these aspects, the present work will study the application of NCC in biomimetic systems based on ionotropic gelation for the controlled release of drugs. For this, the bacterial cellulose will be obtained through the cultivation of the bacterium G. xylinus. The NCC will be formed with the methodology developed in the master's project. Drug-containing formulations will be developed. Samples will be evaluated by SEM, confocal microscopy, FTIR, nanosizer, XRD and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The expected results are the application of NCC in new biomimetic systems, incorporating drugs and ensuring better performance. (AU)
