Abstract

With the following project we propose to analyze the critical discourses of Mário Pedrosa (1990-1981) and Sérgio Milliet (1898-1966) under the perspective of the circulation of Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) in the Brazilian artistic scene. We understand that Mário Pedrosa and Sérgio Milliet were central figures in the formation of the art collections of the main Brazilian cultural centers. The two intellectuals had decisive participation in the suggestions for acquisitions of pieces of art; in the intermediation between institutions, artists and galleries; and even in the formation of an audience interested in dealing with the issues proposed by modern art. We consider the relationship of the above - mentioned critics to the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC - USP) to be a constituent part of this process. In view of this, we intend to collaborate with the research already carried out in the museum and, especially, with regard to the core of Italian works under study in the framework of the thematic project Collect, Identify, Process, Disseminate.
