Abstract

From the second half of the 1980s onward, the great agribusiness in Brazil has ascended a new moment with regard to the regulation of production, parallel to the incorporation of new areas and new techniques of agricultural production. The increase of demand for agricultural commodities, from globalized markets, boosted the production, thereby stimulating cultivation in new areas. Because to the intensifying of the territorial division of labor - in view of the productive specialization of specific portions of the national territory, especially in the Central-North Cerrados - the regions at the agro-industrial commodity production - the RPAs (agribusiness productive regions) are consolidated. In this context, MATOPIBA emerges as a planning region, whose main interest is to regulate the constituent territories, through an association between state and private capital, in order to stimulate the expansion of globalized agribusiness. Based on this situation, this research seeks to understand how changes occurred in the agricultural use of the territory from the advance of soybean in MATOPIBA.
