Abstract Child behavior problems are considered risk factors for child health and development. On the other hand, social skills are considered as a factor of protection, health and child welfare. Recent studies have sought to investigate, within the scope of parenting practices, which variables directly influenced the issue of behavioral problems or social skills by children.Overall, in these studies, negative practices were predictors of behavioral problems and positive practices of social skills. In addition, social skills were identified as inversely proportional to behavioral problems. Considering the relevance of predictive studies for the elucidation of the variables that most influence childhood behaviors, it is considered important research that seeks to refine the statistical treatments used, as well as the increased control of the variables analyzed. In this sense, the aim of this study is, in the same sample, to develop predictive models for behavioral problems and social skills in children, including maternal and paternal educational practices assessed by report and observation.Seventy-one biological couples, mothers and fathers, who answered the CBCL, RE-HSE-P and QRSH questionnaires will participate in this study. They were also filmed during 15 minutes of interaction with their children in a playful situation. The filming data were tabulated and analyzed according to an observation protocol developed from RE-HSE-P.These analyzes are intended to be developed in partnership with Professor Anne Marie Fontaine, from the Doctoral Program in Psychology at the University of Porto, through an internship abroad. The acquired knowledge will allow the adoption of sophisticated statistical treatments, still little known and dominated by the present student. It is worth mentioning that the establishment of a partnership with the team of Professor Anne Marie Fontaine, may enable other research between the team of the referred professor and the Laboratory of Learning, Development and Health (LADS), Unesp.
