Abstract it is important to verify if the Frequency Modulation System (FM System) is functioning properly before fitting it in an individual with hearing loss (HL). This evaluation is defined as transparency, in which the same input signal to the hearing aid (HA-local) and to the FM System (remote) produces similar output signal from both. In the absence of transparency, the local microphone may not capture the voice of the student and his/her peers appropriately, interfering with the acoustic-articulatory feedback, interaction, and inclusion in the classroom. Similarly, the remote microphone may not have the advantage in gain needed to emphasize the teacher's voice. This study aimed to investigate the influence of the default FM System gain on the transparency of different brands and models of FM Systems and HA. This retrospective observational study was carried out from a database of integrated projects, which had been approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Bauru School of Dentistry and from the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies of the University of São Paulo, Bauru campus and of The Hearing Healt Lab, University of Dallas, USA.
