Abstract

How are electorate preferences taken into account by political actors when these need to make decisions? To answer this question postdoctoral research shouldtake into account the importance that political parties have in the legislative process Brazilian. The objective is to deepen the results found in previous editions of this thematic project related to legislative behavior. The expected contribution will be the systematic incorporation of the electoral arena to understand the behavior of the legislator. The starting point of the analysis should be the recognition of the polarization process politics in the Brazilian political system, seeking to understand how this same process reinforces the connection between electoral and parliamentary dynamics. More specifically, the goal understand if and how the attention of parliamentary action to its electoral effects is being affected by the polarization process. The research should have a comparative perspective, so that the evidence of the case dialogue with international literature, especially for the due to the accumulation of knowledge already produced in the literature about the experience of this country with analogous process.
