Abstract

Nowadays, our society increasingly depends on software systems to perform daily tasks. Thus, it is expected that such systems will also be able to operate under uncertain conditions without interruptions or human interventions. The causes of uncertainty range from changes in the operating environment to varying users' goals. In this sense, Self-adaptive Software (SaS) allows us to deal with uncertainties by changing their structures and/or behaviors at runtime. In parallel, Reference Architectures (AR) aim to capture the essence of similar system architectures by facilitating the development of concrete architectures for new systems, new system versions, or similar system extensions. Based on this context, two ARs were designed by our research group in previous work, namely: (I) RA4SaS (Reference Architecture for SaS) (Affonso & Nakagawa, 2013); and (II) RA4Self-MobApps (Reference Architecture for Self-adaptive Service-oriented Mobile Applications) (Affonso et al., 2019). These ARs aim to support the SaS community and other stakeholders in SaS/Self-MobApps development supported by patterns and good software engineering practices (Affonso & Nakagawa, 2014). For this, such ARs have been evolved and optimized since they were elaborated through projects conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Frank José Affonso, namely: PIBIC/CNPq and FAPESP (Processes: 2013/00283-2, 2014/19826-9, 2015/10147-4, 2017/01703-6). Regarding the last project (2017 / 01703-6), a tool called "DSLModeler4SaS" was developed. In short, this tool enables the software engineer to model self-adaptive software entity models by using a Domain-Specific Language (DSL). Next, these models are transferred to the source code module (Project: 2015/10147-4) so that the target language code is generated. This tool has provided greater flexibility and better maintainability of self-adapting software entities when a new application is instantiated to a new domain because only new templates should be designed for software entities and their respective architecture. In order to extend the applicability of these architectures, this project aims to design and implement a persistence annotation module for the DSLModeler4SaS tool. This module aims to maximize and flexible the use of persistence frameworks that can be used for data storage for both RA4SaS and RA4Self-MobApps software entities. Therefore, at the end of this project, it is intended to have a tool that enables the development of SaS and Self-MobApps that enables interested parties (i.e., software engineer and/or domain specialists) to act in the development of software entities and/or self-adaptive services, depending on their domain needs. Thus, it is expected to have an infrastructure solution integrated with both RAs (RA4SaS and RA4Self-MobApps) that can flexibly and optimize overall SaS development. (AU)
