Abstract

Despite various techniques for the treatment of hip dislocation in small animals, the use of autologous or heterologous tendon graft for reconstruction of the round ligament is still incipient. Thus, this study aimed to perform functional analysis of the round ligament reconstruction technique using semitendinosus muscle tendon autograft in experimental rabbit model. Based on a power analysis, 30 Norfolk rabbits will be used, which will be divided into two experimental groups after transection of the ligament of the head of the right femur: Control group (G1, n = 15), which will not have the reconstructed ligament; Reconstruction group (G2, n = 15) - ligament repair will be performed. The semitendinosus muscle tendon graft will be harvested from the left hind limb, corresponding to a third of the diameter. One-third of the diameter of the tendon from the left semitendinosus muscle will be harvested. Centering the femoral neck, a hole will be performed in the greater trochanter base, and another hole at the insertion point of the round ligament in the acetabular fossa. Using a steel surgical wire as a guide, after the tendon be double-stranded aiming a greater resistence of the graft, it will be passed in normagrad fashion within the joint surface. A double loop Kirschner wire lock will be attached over the dorsal acetabular surface as an Anchorage point to the graft. The joint will be placed on it's anatomical position and the graft will be pulled tight and fixed with a cortical screw in the femoral greater trochanter orifice. The parameters evaluated will be gait, radiographic and ultrasonographic articular pattern, cytological analysis of the synovial fluid and circumference of the hind limbs at 15 days, 30 days and 90 days after the surgery.
