Abstract

The objective of this study is quantify the ingestion of arginine (Arg) for body weight maintenance and egg mass production of Japanese quails. The design will be completely random, with eight treatments and seven replications of one quail each, totaling 56 Japanese quails at peak production. The trial will last seven weeks (three weeks of adaptation and four weeks for data collection). The treatments will consist of seven levels of Arg plus control diet, formulated to prove the limitation of arginine in the dietary protein profile. The treatments will be obtained by the dilution technique. The experimental levels of Arg will be: 0.364; 0.607; 0.849; 1.092; 1.213; 1,334 and 1,456% digestible Arg. The variables collected will be: feed intake, egg production, egg weight and body weight. Based on these variables, digestible Arg intake, egg mass (EM) and metabolic weight (W) will be calculated. The relationship between Arg (x), EM and W intake will be adjusted using multiple linear regression according to the model: x = ²1W + ²2EM ê, where ²1 and ²2 are the parameters that quantify the partition for maintenance and egg mass production, respectively, and ê is random error. At the end it is expected to describe the response curve of birds submitted to different arginine intakes and to determine the parameters of a factorial model to calculate the arginine intake, considering the differences between egg mass production and body weight.
