Evaluation of shear bond strength between artificial teeth attached to a denture base resin used for 3D printing

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the bond strength between artificial teeth obtained by additive digital manufacturing (3D printing) or prefabricated conventional acrylic resin and a denture base resins using different bonding agents (self-curing acrylic resin, 3D printing resin, and MMA methyl methacrylate + 3D printing resin). The specimens will correspond to artificial teeth, upper first molars embedded in the colorless self-curing acrylic resin polymer bonded to a 3D-printed base resin or a conventional heat-polymerized denture base resin. The evaluations will be performed by means of the mechanical shear test by applying a force perpendicular to the artificial tooth - denture base resin, through a chisel at a speed of 1mm/min until fracture of the resin occurs. Thus, the bond strength (MPa) between artificial tooth and denture base resin will be evaluated considering three variation factors: artificial tooth, denture base resin, and a bonding agent. The data will be submitted to statistical analysis by appropriate tests, according to their adherence to the assumptions of normality, with a significance level of 5%. (AU)
