In vitro evaluation of the biological properties of denture-based 3D printing resins after immersion in disinfectant solutions

Abstract

The new techniques for making dentures, obtained through intraoral scanning and the use of subtractive or additive manufactures, do not reduce the formation of biofilm on the materials used, enabling the occurrence of pathologies, such as prosthetic stomatitis. Therefore, the aim of this in vitro study will be to evaluate the biological properties (adhesion capacity and biofilm formation and cytotoxicity) of two commercial brands of denture-based 3D printing resins after immersion in disinfectant solutions. Samples (14 mm in diameter and 1.2 mm thick) will be projected virtually and will be made in a 3D printer. After making, the samples will be divided into 4 groups according to the disinfectant solution that will be used and the control group (distilled water) for each commercial brand of 3D printing resin: AD: samples that will be immersed in distilled water; HS: samples that will be immersed in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite; DC: samples that will be immersed in 2% chlorhexidine gluconate; SL: samples that will be immersed in a disinfectant liquid soap solution (Lifebuoy). All samples will be immersed at immersion times of 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and after each period, the biological properties will be evaluated. In addition, the analysis of surface roughness will be performed. The results will be tabulated and submitted to the normality test to verify the distribution of sample data. Based on the results observed through the normality test, the most appropriate statistical method will be determined at a significance level of 5%. (AU)
