Abstract

This proposal intends to analyze the role assigned to the bishops in Portuguese society of the fifteenth century to correct the conduct of other clergy as well as the laity. With an emphasis on the constitutions of two archbishops of Braga, D. Luís Pires and D. Diogo de Sousa, this study will examine how their actions helped stimulate clergy reform and create behavioral parameters for the laity. In addition, this Scientific Initiation research will analyze the displacements between the two texts in order to map similarities and differences between the synods celebrated by each of these two archbishops in the archdiocese of Braga.
