Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the net energy requirement of maintenance in broiler breeders under different feeding regimes. A total of 18 Hubbard breeders with 30 to 40 weeks of age will be subjected to two feeding regimes: Restricted feeding (150 g feed/bird/day); and ad libitum feeding. Measurements will be made at three ages (30, 35 and 40 weeks of age) in groups of six birds each. For the measurement of heat production the birds will be housed in respirometric chambers (1 bird/chamber) under thermoneutral conditions to determine the heat increment production, and then fasted for 24 hours to measure the fasting heat production (FHP). For this, measurements of oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbon dioxide production (VCO2) will be performed by the indirect calorimetry method, and the heat production (PC) calculated by the Bronwer equation (1964). At the end of each period, the body composition of the birds will be analyzed by the DXA scanner to obtain the protein, lipid and mineral content. Statistical analysis will be two-way ANOVA (2x3) performed to test the effect of dietary restriction on FHP. From the FHP measurement will be adjusted the basal metabolic rate function (5N 5C5I0.75) a is the coefficient and PV is the live weight. The analysis of body components evaluation (protein, lipids and mineral matter) will be performed by multiple linear regression analysis and correlated with FHP. (AU)
