Abstract High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is capable to induce performance improvements and positive biomolecular adaptations, however, but it appears to be ineffective in improving performance in exhaustive continuous supramaximal efforts (TS). This ineffectiveness can be attributed to the desynchronization between the increase in glycogen and the increase in the enzymatic activity of the glycolytic pathway; increased use of the anaerobic reserve; neuromuscular failure due to increased acidosis. Thus, this research project will investigate the ability of HIIT to cause changes in TS performance and in biomolecular, neuromuscular and metabolic responses and their possible interactions with TS performance. For this, 20 moderately active men will perform the following sequence of assessments: 1) incremental test; 2) familiarization with experimental procedures; 3) test to determine the reserve anaerobic power (PAnR); 4 and 5) TS at 150% of the intensity associated with the respiratory compensation point, so that before and immediately after one of these assessments, the neuromuscular function will be evaluated through peripheral electrical stimulation and the vastus muscle biopsy will be performed in the other laterally, randomly. After this period, training will be started with a duration of 5 weeks, so that one of the participants will be randomly allocated in the training group (n = 10) and in the control group (n = 10). The training sessions will consist of 4 all-out sprints of 30s in the first week, adding 1 sprint weekly until the 3rd week. In the fifth week, a polishing will be performed, with a gradual reduction of the load to 3 sprints (reduction of ~40% in the number of sprints). After this period, they will be reassessed in a similar way to the pre-training moment, however, the 2nd evaluation will be performed TS at the same intensity as the pre-training moment. (AU) | |
