Abstract

The main objective of this project is to verify the possible influences of the association between supplementation of ²-alanine and high intensity interval training (HIIT) on repeated sprint performance. 20 young men will participate in the study that will be conducted in a randomized, double-blind design. They will be randomly divided into two groups (G² - ²-alanine supplementation; GP - placebo supplementation). The volunteers will be evaluated at three different moments; before the start of HIIT (4 weeks) before the beginning of HIIT associated with supplementation (6 weeks) and after training period. Previously the eavluations will be performed a nutritional record of three days to control the energy consumption of the participants. The evaluations will consist of: Day 1 - an incremental test until exhaustion; Day 2 - three maximum jump (counter moviment jump) before and immediately after two bouts of six 35-m sprints with 10 s rest between sprints and 4 min rest between bouts; Day 3 - time to exhaustion at 115% of intensity attained to maximum oxygen uptake. The tests will be performed on isolated days and separated by 48 hours. Previously and immediately after the procedures of the 1st and 2nd days will be performed neuromuscular evaluations that consist of maximum isometric knee extension jointly the Twitch Interpolation technique. Volunteers will train for 10 weeks, and during the last six weeks of training will be associated with administration of 6.4 g/day of ²-alanine or placebo (dextrose). Prior to the start of supplementation and imediatly after the end of the protocol, the volunteers will be submitted to muscle biopsy and the sample of muscle tissue will be used to determine the content of intramuscular carnosine, in vitro buffering capacity and content/activity of key enzymes.
