Abstract

Infections caused by multi-antimicrobial resistant (MDR) microorganisms have grown exponentially in recent years. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from the beta-lactam family and in particular carbapenems has generated a high rate of bacterial-related infections health care (IRAS), generating a public health problem that leads to several cases of morbidity and mortality in immunosuppressed patients. Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains have developed several defense mechanisms against carbapenemics. Mechanisms such as overexpression of efflux systems, alteration of membrane permeability and synthesis of penicillin binding proteins, can present all mechanisms together in a single individual.
