Abstract

Inflammation is a component of the tumor microenvironment and represents the 7th hallmark of cancer. Although the evidence suggests that inflammation causes cancer, formal proof is still required. It will be important to define which cellular and molecular components are common to all cancer-promoting inflammatory responses, and which are specific to particular tissues and tumor types. Previous reports have indicated that T cells can exert both tumor-suppressive and -promoting effects, as determined by their effector functions. TH1 and TH17 cell responses play critical roles in antitumour immunity, whereas Th2type cytokines downregulate antitumour immunity. Since TH cell lineages express lineage-defining transcription factors, we aim to evaluate the transcrip fators expression profile in lymphocytes from squamous cell carcinoma patients.
