Abstract

Emotional regulation corresponds to the capacity of the individual, through a series of mechanisms, to modulate the responses evoked by various emotional stimuli in order to control and eventually change their emotional state in accordance with the situation, offering possibilities of adaptive behavior which are very important in the social life of individuals and in the achievement of their goals. Previous research indicates that these mechanisms are altered in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly in ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder). The present study aims to provide an analysis of electrophysiological correlates, specifically ERPs (event-related potentials), of emotional processing in preschool children with ADHD. This project will significantly add to the neurodevelopmental field, by generating new information about the neural mechanisms underlying emotional regulation problems in young children with ADHD.
