Abstract

Ovarian carcinoma can be recognized and attacked by the immune system, and thus contain a lymphocyte infiltrate. Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes - TILS, are present in the tumor microenvironment. Its presence, type and frequency have been associated with prognosis. Research on the expression of tumor microenvironment immunohistochemical markers in women with ovarian carcinoma may generate parameters for optimizing treatment with new drugs, when available. Objective: To compare the clinicopathological profile, the presence of intratumoral T cells (TILs) and the expression of immunohistochemical markers such as PD1, PD-L1, PD-L2, CTLA-4 and CD8 in women with different types of ovarian carcinoma; its correlation with chemotherapy response, progression-free survival and overall survival. Subjects and methods: This is an observational convenience cohort study, and all women, aged 18 years and over, with histologically confirmed ovarian carcinoma identified from January 2014 through 2020, who attended at the Women's Hospital of the State University of Campinas-SP, will be selected. The estimative is about 50 new cases of ovarian cancer per year at the Center for Integral Attention to Women's Health (CAISM-UNICAMP), among which about 80% will be eligible for research. It is been estimated to include 200 cases. Tissue samples of women with ovarian carcinoma stored in the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Unicamp will be used. The stored material will come from a diagnostic procedure performed by surgery and eventually ultrasound-guided biopsy before starting treatment. In women undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy and a new surgical procedure, this material will also be used. The indication of the treatment is made according to the service's protocol and this project will not interfere with the clinical conduct. For cases already under treatment / follow-up, the Informed Consent Form (ICF) will be applied to consultations at the Center for Integral Attention to Women's Health (CAISM-UNICAMP). The performance of the different variables will be analyzed by calculating the means and standard deviation and their respective 95% confidence intervals and survival curves using the Kaplan-Meier method.
