Abstract

The beneficiary of this IC fellowship will make use of the CAETÊ Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (DGVM) to simulate the behavior of plant functional diversity over the Amazon region under climate change scenarios. This evaluation aims to establish a relation between the magnitude of climate change effects on functional diversity structure in Central Amazon and how they are translated into changes in the provision of ecosystem services. The beneficiary will target services related to water provision and carbon storage. The selected student will organize dataset of climate projections and perform a simple model run with the CAETÊ model using such input data - therefore it will not involve the development of any part of the model. This analysis will be a first exercise comparing the current and projected provision of ecosystem services and its relation to functional diversity shifts driven by climate change. (AU)
