Abstract

The present research aims to map and analyses the speech, arguments and controversy of 14 radical liberal newspapers, most of them significantly founded at September 7th, 1850. The periodic emerged at the regions of Bahia, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão, agitating the political debate by inserting several guidelines - the main one being the realization of a constituent assembly . The network is still little known and was not studied in depth by historiography. Thereby, I intend to analyses these periodic between the years of 1850 and 1852. The period was characterized as a time where the liberals, with the defeat of the Praieira revolution, were controlled by the saquarema command and the manutention of the order and modernization of the state. We believe, instead, that the political debate was marked by the wide dispute and the active participation of the liberals. The perspective adopted by us is that the experiences accumulated during the imperial revolts were sediment in the form of political learning, producing a polarized discourse that was being verified in the printed media of the provinces. We therefore seek to requalify the debate over the political disputes of the time, contributing for a better knowledge on the action of the liberals in the Brazil empire. (AU)
