Abstract

This research departs from the hypothesis that there is a accordance between Ismail Xavier's film theory and the disciplinary field of the discourse analysis. To verify the hypothesis we propose to draw relation lines between the use of the concepts of "transparency" and "opacity" in the works of Xavier and in discourse analysis, aiming to comprehend the similarities and divergences in the use of the concepts. In the first stage we propose to conceptualize this tensioning inside discourse analysis through the work of Jacqueline Authier-Revuz. In the second stage, we shall investigate how the elaborations of Mikhail Bakhtin impact on the conception of this concepts. In the last stage, we shall utilize this authors to approach the conception of transparency and opacity proposed by Ismail Xavier in "O discurso cinematográfico" ["The cinematographic discourse"], pointing the convergences and divergences between the use of this concepts in these two different disciplinary fields.
