Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is considered a major public health problem. Patients with CKD have increased risk of death due to cardiovascular disease (CVD) than general population. Epidemiological and interventional studies suggest that late-night dinner eating and sleep duration are associated with increased risk for obesity and CVD. However, these unhealthy habits were not yet evaluated in patients requiring hemodialysis. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the association between late-night dinner eating and sleep duration with rates of hospital admission and mortality in patients requiring hemodialysis, 6 months after the initial evaluation. Patients with stage 5 CKD, under hemodialysis for at least 3 months, of both genders, older than 18 years, being followed at Dialysis Unit of Botucatu Medical School will be included in the study. We estimate to include 100 patients. Demographic, clinical, laboratorial and anthropometric data will be recorded. The patients will register the dinnertime, the time they go to bed and the time they wake up during one week. Three-day food record and International Physical Activity Questionnaire will be applied. To evaluate the association between late-night dinner eating and sleep duration with rates of hospital admission and mortality we will use uni and multivariate logistic regression models. The significance level is 5%. (AU)
