Abstract

The assessment of the nutritional status of dogs is currently decisive for the good treatment of the animal and for the prevention of possible diseases. Obesity is one of the most worrying nutritional states for a veterinarian due to its wide-ranging consequences on the physiology of the animal's organism. To diagnose this and other problems in nutritional status, the body condition score (ECC) is often used. This method is visual, being very subjective and varying according to the professional. There are also other methods, but more complex to be carried out while having errors. Because of this, the present study seeks solutions to make such a diagnosis through more objective methods, aiming to reduce errors, facilitate the professional's work and contribute to the therapeutic success. For this purpose, measurements measured in imaging and anthropometric exams in dogs treated at the Veterinary Hospital "Luiz Quintiliano de Oliveira" of UNESP - Araçatuba will be used. These will be analyzed statistically, aiming to find a new diagnosis for canine nutritional status. With this, we seek to assist veterinarians in their clinical routine, aiming to improve this diagnosis and promote improvements in life and well-being for dogs.
