The municipality of Bertioga - SP, located in the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista, has witnessed in the last decades an intense transformation of the landscape, due to industrialization, urban expansion, population growth, tourism and housing and road constructions. The study area is located under two distinct geomorphological domains, one being the rugged area of Serra do Mar in the Atlantic Plateau and the other the coastal plain with an active, complex and fragile dynamic. For these two main factors - fragility and urban expansion - the research that investigates the environmental impacts in coastal areas is of great relevance in contemporary times. The research will be guided by the General Systems Theory, which proposes the integrated study of the component elements of the landscape. The central proposal of this project aims to relate the Use and Occupation of the land with the main geomorphological systems of the municipality, seeking to define how this use interferes and promotes changes in these systems. For this purpose, a set of cartographic materials for the entire study area will be prepared or organized, which will assist in the preparation of a synthesis document, the Geomorphological Compartmentation Chart, on a scale of 1: 50,000, in order to identify the main sets of forms of relevance that makes up the study area, in addition to two mapping of land use and occupation, for the years 1989 and 2019, in order to measure the main changes in this aspect, since it was in the 1980s that such transformations were intensified. It is expected that with the elaboration and weighting of the cartographic collection that will compose the mapping of the geomorphological compartments added to the analysis of the use and occupation of land in at least two time series. It will be possible to ascertain the transformations in the landscape related to the use and occupation and which the natural systems defined in the geomorphological mapping start to see a higher level of pressure related to the model of assisted use in the last decades in the study area. It is considered that this research, by integrating the work in progress in the area, developed by the Center for Environmental and Coastal Studies / IG / Unicamp, will bring contributions to more in-depth analysis related to the dynamics of natural systems and anthropic systems investigated on the coast of São Paulo by search group.
