Strength, microstructure of fully stabilized zirconia infiltrated with glass and its survival rate after adhesive cementation

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop a glass that is thermally compatible to be infiltrated in a zirconia partially stabilized by yttrium oxide (5Y-PSZ), to characterize and test them under fatigue. Zirconia discs (5Y-PSZ) (N = 140) dimensions 1.2x12mm and NEMA G-10 (N = 80) dimensions of 2.5x12mm will be made, which will be polished with silicon carbide files in a polishing machine. The zirconia discs will be randomly distributed in order to compose the two parts of the work. Part A will deal with the characterization made through the groups: Zpr (n = 30) zirconia just sintered, and the Zinf group (n = 30) where the glass will be applied and sintered. They will be tested through the biaxial flexion test (MPa) and the fractures will be evaluated using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD) and, Weibull Analysis (5% significance level) will be applied to verify structural homogeneity. Part B will test, via stepwise stress, simplified restoration models, groups: Kctrl (control -, n = 20), Kglz (control +, n = 20), Kinfoc (infiltration in the "occlusal" surface n = 20) and Kinfcim (infiltration on the cementation surface, n = 20). The surface treatment of the zirconia will be carried out by sandblasting with aluminum oxide particles (30-50 microns) with the exception of the Kinfcim group, which will be conditioned with 2% hydrofluoric acid for 10 seconds and washing with air and water for 30 seconds, NEMA G10 discs will be conditioned with 10% hydrofluoric acid for 60 seconds and washed with air and water for 30 seconds. The groups of part B will be cemented with dual cure resin cement and photopolymerized with light emitting diode with an intensity of 1400 mW / cm2, which will be applied to the four faces around the specimen for 40 seconds each. The specimens will be evaluated via Oblique Transillumination, Stereomicroscope and, later, in SEM. The data obtained through the stepwise stress test will be analyzed by the Kaplan Meier test in order to estimate the life span of the materials at various time intervals and possible loads. (AU)
