Abstract

Global climate change poses a major threat to agricultural production and food security worldwide and, especially, in the tropics. This postdoctoral scholarship project proposal aims to use the transformation of corn and Arabidopsis thaliana to assess the function of genes associated with abiotic stresses. The project involves everything from the optimization of transformation protocols until the evaluation of the role of genes in the plant biology. As for the transformation of corn, the fellow will work in collaboration with the transformation team to optimize the process. As for the use of Arabidopsis thaliana, the fellow will work in collaboration with other researchers to elucidate the functions of genes related to mitochondrial metabolism. (AU)
