Abstract Global climate change poses a major threat to agricultural production and food security worldwide and, especially, in the tropics. Research and development efforts to develop plants adapted to the conditions of severe water stress and high temperatures have been concentrated in the large transnational agricultural biotechnology companies. In Brazil, despite the scientific critical mass of excellence in plant biotechnology, we still do not have relevant products generated by Brazilian Institutions on the market, especially for global crops such as corn and soybeans. This postdoctoral scholarship project proposal aims to optimize the maize transformation process, mediated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens, so that the Genomics Research Center for Climate Change (GCCRC) achieves the objective of generating genetically modified plants tolerant to dry. | |
