Abstract

Individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have a decline in lung function and tend to have a lower level of physical activity compared to young children. In addition, there is literature that shows that these damages affect the postural balance and the quality of sleep. Goals: To investigate an association between postural balance, such as sleep disorders, the level of physical activity and sedentary behavior in COPD. Methods: The first phase of the study deals with a cross-sectional study. They will be carried out in 2 non-consecutive visits; on the first day, an initial assessment of the investigation of comorbidities and questionnaires will be made to assess sleep quality (PSQI), differences (mMRC and CAT), anxiety and depression (HADS) and mood (Brunel). Individuals receive two accelerometers and a sleep and physical activity diary, which are returned within seven days. At this meeting, hold the Mini-BESTest and the balance platform (AMTI). Statistical analysis: With a prevalence of 40% (Oliveira et al, 2015), 70 patients are recruited to allow for possible changes during follow-up. The alpha value will be adjusted to 0.05 and the power to 0.8. A descriptive analysis of the phase 1 data will be performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The association between the variables will go through the Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficient and the significance level of 5%. (AU)
