Abstract

Supercapacitors are power system energy storage and current scientific efforts in the area have focused on improving electrodes and electrolytes to better understand device charging and discharging and failure mechanisms. Given the challenges faced in the development of materials, this proposal has as its main objective the characterization of the electrode/electrolyte interface under dynamic operating conditions, which our group has been doing for about 2 years. In particular we will study asymmetric devices, formed by porous carbon structures with high surface area on one of the electrodes and spinel-type metal oxides on the other. We will seek to perform fundamental studies of these devices through traditional characterization techniques and operando mode to elucidate the phenomena of energy storage. (AU)
