Abstract

This work aims to expand and complement the understanding of regional factors that impact and shape the regional dynamics of innovation in Brazil. Three aspects will be analysed in this research: the higher education institutions, the technologies and the industry 4.0. Therefore, this research proposes to develop threes studies based on the approach of geography and innovation. The first study is concerning higher education institutions and has the aim to analyse the effects of the expansion process of higher education institutions, which occurred in recent years in Brazil, on regional innovation. The second study is regarding technologies by proposing to evaluate how the density of technologies impact on regional technological advantages. This study intends to analyse whether there are territorial factors associated exclusively with technological trajectories that bring technological advantages to Brazilian regions. Finally, the third study is related to industry 4.0 and proposes to explore which researches and technologies are being developed in industry 4.0 in Brazilian regions. (AU)
