Abstract

Faced with a scenario, characterized mainly by the high generation of solid urban waste and the scarcity of areas for proper disposal, the importance of the performance of recyclable and reusable solid waste collectors for the management and proper management of waste is highlighted. Also, in line with the collectors, the segregated waste collection, or selective collection, stands out, which represents one of the main instruments of the National Solid Waste Policy, as it is an activity with positive impacts on the environment and, economically, present a reduced cost when compared to the installation and maintenance of a landfill. However, despite their important role, waste pickers are in a situation of extreme vulnerability and social and economic fragility. Thus, this project aims to identify and analyze the economic and social impacts on the lives of individual waste pickers in the municipality of Matão / SP. Still, the intention is to characterize the socioeconomic profile of the collectors, in addition to identifying the equipment used and the difficulties for carrying out the selective collection of recyclable and reusable waste. It is also noteworthy that it seeks to analyze the inclusion of waste pickers in the municipality's solid waste management flow. For this, it will be carried out: bibliographic review on the theme; collection of secondary data in the Municipal Plan for Integrated Solid Waste Management and Municipal Plan for Basic Sanitation; and primary data collection, through a semi-structured form, which will be applied to individual waste pickers in the municipality of Matão / SP. It should be noted that the identification of these collectors will occur through the intermediaries of the flow management and management of solid waste (scrap dealers) and by indication of the collectors already interviewed. Thus, it is expected to characterize the socioeconomic profile of individual waste pickers in the municipality, in addition to indicating the working conditions for carrying out the selective collection, in the municipality of Matão / SP.
