Abstract

One of the factors that integrate the environmental sanitation governance and, therefore, that impact the environment in the face of climate changes in the Macrometrópole Paulista (MMP) is the management of urban solid waste, especially the selective collection. To strengthen the implementation of the PNRS with the inclusion of recyclable material collectors organized in labour associations and cooperatives and environmental governance and to contribute to the improvement of environmental sanitation governance in MMP, the Institute of Energy and Environment within the scope of the "Environmental Governance of Macrometrópole Paulista in the face of climatic variability" developed and improved the Platform for Sustainable Indicators of Selective Collection and Waste Pickers Organizations tool which is available at http://iee.us.br/pics. The aim of this project that is being presented is to make a diagnosis of urban waste management and disseminate the use of the Platform to municipal managers and MMP waste pickers' organizations in order to contribute to the improvement of the selective collection systems in the region and the sustainability of waste picker organizations in the provision of the selective collection service. The results of the research project will be made available on the website www.macroamb.org.
