Resistance of extrinsic characterization layer over new translucent zirconias through the sliding fatigue test

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the alteration of the surface roughness of the characterization layer applied over high translucency zirconia (YZ® HT), super translucency zirconia (YZ® ST) and extra translucency zirconia (YZ® XT), against an antagonist in zirconia. Therefore, thirty discs (12 mm in diameter, 1.2 mm thick) will be made, 10 of YZ® HT, 10 of YZ® ST and 10 of YZ® XT (Vita YZ®, Vita Zhanfabrick, Bad Säckingen, Germany), which will be sliced through the diamond disc cutting machine under constant cooling. The discs will be polished with silicon carbide sandpaper (# 400, # 600, # 800, and # 1200) through the automatic polishing machine and cleaning in an ultrasonic bath with isopropyl alcohol for 5 minutes. The samples will be sintered, later they will receive the characterization layer, glaze and the proper burning according to the manufacturers' recommendations. The samples will be subjected to simulation of physiological wear through the sliding fatigue test, with a zirconia applicator. The samples will be evaluating before and after the testing through a contact roughness meter that parameters of height roughness (Rz) and roughness values mean (Ra) will be analyzed. The fracture way will be evaluated with the aid of a stereomicroscopy. The roughness values will be analyzed statistically. The data will be discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
