Abstract

Brazilian propolis produced by Apis mellifera, popularly known as green, brown, and red, with approximately 200 tons produced per year, is highly economically relevant to Brazil since they are exported to several countries, especially Japan and China. In addition to the well-known propolis, there is propolis that has not yet been studied, as is the case of propolis produced in Northeastern Brazil's "Caatinga vegetation." This propolis has market potential, but studies must be carried out to develop this new Brazilian propolis. Thus, it is proposed to carry out detailed chemical studies of isolation and structural identification of the major and minor metabolites of this unprecedented propolis from the Caatinga and its botanical source. Also, red propolis compounds, whose botanical sources are Dalbergia ecastaphyllumm and Symphonia globulifera, will be re-isolated to be used in the development of analytical methods and conducting biological tests in the ongoing thematic project entitled: "Conducting chemical, analytical, biological, pharmacological and technological studies to fill the gaps in the development of the Brazilian propolis sector."
