Abstract

How do land use and land cover changes affect social, economic, and environmental factors in Brazil? The country that is worldwide known for its biodiversity is also one of the largest agricultural producers in the world. We choose this scenario for the development of this postdoctoral proposal, in which we will apply statistical analyses based on geospatial and census data from the last three decades. This project has four stages: (1) survey and structuration of socioeconomic data and land use and land cover information provided by public agencies; (2) calculation of landscape metrics addressing the three levels of analysis (patch, class and landscape) and ecosystem services; (3) statistical analysis of correlation, factor analysis, clustering and principal component analysis; (4) writing high impact scientific papers and elaborating of an atlas with the leading results. The originality of this project lies in the integrative approach of changes in the landscape and the socioeconomic data of the Brazilian territory, aiming to generate scientific evidence to drive proposals, and guidelines of new public policies focused on territorial planning and management, as well as for decision-makers in the various sectors of society.
