Abstract

Children and adolescents post-infection with SARS-COV-2 may have persistent inflammation, with isolated or concomitant attacks on various organs and systems, including the immune system. The over activation of the different compartments of the immune system during infection can interfere with the pattern of immune response of these individuals throughout their lives. However, to date, there are no systematic longitudinal studies that have evaluated all these aspects in a pediatric population that survived COVID-19, particularly with chronic conditions and who were hospitalized in a tertiary service. The exacerbation of the inflammatory response can lead to tissue damage and studies show that these conditions promote the production of soluble mediators that could act as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for COVID-19. Thus, this prospective study is extremely relevant for us to better understand the possible changes in the immune response of these children and adolescents due to the SARS-VOC-2 infection. The measurement of sTREM-1 in patients with acute infection and in convalescents of COVID-19 is extremely important and may result in the early identification of severe conditions. (AU)
