Abstract

Adequate serum concentrations of calcium and vitamin D are associated with better physical performance and less muscle fatigue, especially in athletes. However, further studies are still needed to clarify whether there is an association between adequate levels of these substances and the risk of stress fracture among athletes and military personnel practicing physical exercise. Objective: In view of this, the general objective of this study is to verify the profile of the serum vitamin D level and the stress fracture among athletes and military personnel. Methods: Methods: Systematic literature review with meta-analysis of scientific production on the topic in the last ten years. The research will be carried out on the platforms PubMed, MedLine, Pedro, and Scielo with the search for the keywords vitamin D, stress fracture, athletes, and the military. The COCHRANE database will also be used, following the same parameters described for the other platforms. Systematic reviews with and without meta-analysis and randomized controlled trials will be included. The data will be tabulated and sent for statistical analysis, seeking to establish the associations between a stress fracture and serum vitamin D levels in high-risk populations (athletes and military personnel). Thus, a possible therapeutic recommendation for vitamin D supplementation as a form of prophylaxis for bone stress fractures may be established. Significant differences will be considered ± = 0.05.
