Abstract

The expansion of industrial and agricultural activities has increased human exposure to many toxic substances. After exposure, most of these chemicals can interact with the human organism, leading to a higher predisposition to specific pathologies. Among these chemicals, the aromatic amines (AAs) are a class of emerging pollutants often used as by-products in manufacturing dyes, textiles, plastics, oil refining, leather and rubber manufacturing, and other industrial chemical products. Then, it is essential to conduct studies to determine environmental pollutants concentration in latent sources of exposure as well as in the body fluids of the general population. The results of this approach may assist public health agencies in performing risk assessments and finding populations at risk, mainly more vulnerable, such as children and pregnant women. However, little information is available on the AAs levels in the environment or the level of exposure by the general population. In this sense, the present project aims to determine fifty-eight aromatic amines in textile products commercialized in Spain and Brazil as well as in urine samples from Brazilian pregnant women. The analytes will be determined in 124 textile products and urine samples collected from 300 Brazilian pregnant women (FAPESP Process: 2018/24069-3) by LC-MS/MS. The results of the project will be relevant to support federal agencies of Brazil and Spain in public health policies, establishing baseline values for AAs in textile products, and identifying the general levels of exposure in Brazilian pregnant women.
