Abstract

The school built environment undergoes a long period of intense dynamism, due to new pedagogies and technological advances, and the design of these new schools must be based on scientific evidence and facts in order to promote conscious and effective decision making by architects. The current and continuing Covid-19 pandemic has greatly changed the educational process, as well as all facets of modern daily life, with significant negative impacts on students' academic development. It is necessary for the school environment to adapt to this new reality, in order to allow, even partially, face-to-face education, during and after the pandemic. This research seeks to evaluate the existing evidence on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the educational environment, which changes will be necessary in the physical spaces and in the uses of the school, for elementary school II. Through a Systematic Literature Review, as well as a comparative analysis of selected models of public schools from FDE and MEC, it is expected to result in diagrams and tables summarizing the evidence found and how they impact the school environment, with proposals for adaptations in the physical space and usage in the school building.
