Abstract

The recommended treatment for avulsed teeth in youngsters is dental reimplantation, but tooth survival is low and dependent on the extra-alveolar time and on the storage medium in which the tooth was stored. Considering that most reimplants are performed at a late stage when root surface cells have lost viability, it is necessary to conduct studies that aim to identify substances that prevent or delay the process of tooth resorption in order to increase tooth survival. This is particularly important in children, given the lack of definitive restorative or rehabilitative treatments for this age group. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the mechanisms involved in tooth resorption after avulsion and delayed reimplantation. After the experimental periods, the tissues will be removed for histological processing. Histological sections will be stained by hematoxylin and eosin, marked by immunohistochemistry, and analyzed by conventional light microscopy and fluorescence. Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase activity will be used to mark osteoclasts and in situ zymography to identify active metalloproteinases in the tissue. The data obtained will be submitted to statistical analysis according to their distribution.(AU)
