Abstract

Dental trauma is a common event and the consequences may involve since small dental fractures until the full displacement of the tooth of the alveolar bone, characterizing the dental avulsion. Replantation is the treatment of choice, but cannot always be carried out immediately. According to the International Association of Dental Traumatology, the tooth must be submitted to endodontic treatment 10 days after replantation and the root canal filled with calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2], once there is a direct relationship between pulpal necrosis and inflammatory root resorption in replanted teeth. The Mineral Trioxide Aggregates (MTA) was originally indicated to the completion of endodontic surgeries. However, currently the material has been used in different clinical conditions. The use of calcium hydroxide, despite its excellent biological properties, has some disadvantages. So, it is relevant the study of the MTA as a filled root canal material after the process of external root resorption to verify the reactions of the tissues in contact to this material, as well as of its process of resorption not yet reported in the literature. In this study, will be used 20 wistars rat right upper central incisors teeth, divided in two groups. In Group I the root canals will be filled with a paste of calcium hydroxide and saline solution, in Group II the root canals will be filled with MTA. The sockets will be irrigated with saline solution and the tooth will be replanted. The animals will be sacrificed at 80 days postoperatively. After routine laboratory processing, the histologic sections will be obtained and stained with either hematoxylin and eosin (HE) for histomorphometric analysis. (AU)
