Abstract

Healthcare-related infections (HAIs) are a serious public health problem and are associated with various healthcare practices, such as the administration of injectable drugs. Although this practice is well established, there are reports in the world literature of infection outbreaks resulting from unsafe drug administration. In Brazil, nurses, technicians, and nursing assistants routinely and frequently perform the administration of injectable drugs in different healthcare settings. It is known that their safe performance depends on several factors, such as adequate inputs and the nursing professionals' knowledge on the subject. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge of Brazilian nursing professionals about safe practices in the administration of injectable drugs. This is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, using an online survey, through the Google Forms® platform, with an instrument to "measure the knowledge of nursing professionals about infection prevention in the administration of injectable drugs", previously validated. This study is expected to perform a situational diagnosis of nursing professionals' knowledge about safe practice in injecting drug administration and identify possible topics that deserve future educational interventions.
