Abstract

Rev-erb-alpha is an important physiological regulator of autophagy, mitochondrial content, oxidative function, and maintenance of skeletal muscle mass, making this protein a promising molecular target for the prevention and treatment of Sarcopenia. However, studies in the scientific literature were carried out in rodents with global Nr1d1 deletion, which makes it impossible to differentiate between systemic and local functions of rev-erb-alpha in skeletal muscle physiology. Thus, the application of experimental conditional knockout models is crucial for mechanistic advances regarding the role of the rev-erb-alpha protein in aging-associated Sarcopenia. Therefore, the general objective of this project will be to verify the role of the global or specific (skeletal muscle) deletion of Nr1d1 in the aging process. (AU)
