Abstract

The prevalence of obesity has increased in Brazil and worldwide. A portion of individuals with obesity do not present metabolic alterations, configuring metabolically healthy obesity (ObMS). Over the years, many individuals with ObMS will show metabolic alterations, which increases the risk of cardiovascular events. This study aims to determine, in a longitudinal assessment, the proportion of individuals with ObMS who evolve with metabolic alterations. We also intend to identify predictive factors of evolution with metabolic deterioration and determine the proportion of individuals with obesity and metabolic alterations that evolve with reversal of these parameters. Individuals undergoing at least two continuous health reviews (checkups) between 2007 and 2020 at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein Checkup Service will be studied. The results may contribute to a better understanding of the dynamic character of obesity and its metabolic correlations in our environment, especially by identifying subgroups at higher risk of metabolic worsening. As a whole, this information can refine care, allowing for better planning of preventive actions, in addition to contributing to the awareness of obesity as a public health problem. (AU)
