Abstract

It was with the change in the course of the Phenomenology of Spirit, which can be observed in the differences between the introduction and the preface of the work, that art gained a place in the path of need of knowledge presented to us by Hegel. I understand that this enigmatic place of art in the work, embodied in the figure of religion, may be more relevant than we may first think. In addition to art already appearing textually as a high figure in the path of consciousness, it is apparently part of the very way the work develops. It seems to me that this presence of art in the method of concept development may question Hegel's later formulations that are in the Lectures on Aesthetics. I would like to develop the relationship between art and philosophy, to understand what Hegel effectively takes as pure thinking and whether this is actually what operates in philosophy, and question the place of poetry and literature in the appearance of the Spirit.
