Abstract This project aims to explore the "Revista Brasiliense", a journal on culture and politics published between 1955 and 1964, in the context of the construction of the nationalist movement in the brazilian Fourth Republic. It proposes to analyze the journal in a double angle: both as a group consciously dedicated to the intervention and redefinition of the nationalist program, and as a space that editorially opens up to authors of other affiliations, in a minimal set of terms - the nationalist political language. This general hypothesis of duality will be supported by the following indications: (1) the group that meets in the Editorial Board initially has in common a history of internal struggles and defeats in the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB); (2) the specific marxism of Caio Prado Jr. is the basis for the creation of "Brasiliense" itself and guides the group in general terms; (3) other groups, related to the left from the period, found in the journal a mean of disseminating their research and theoretical positions, as intellectuals linked to the University of São Paulo (USP) and, to a lesser extent, to the Instituto Superior de Estudos Brasileiros (ISEB). Methodologically, we will focus on the primary source (the journal itself), using the instruments from the linguistic contextualism, guided by the characteristics of the object. With this, we hope to contribute with original advances in relation to the state of the art, better defining the contours of Revista Brasiliense's trajectory in the midst of nationalism. | |
