Abstract

This project aims to make descriptive research on creative subtitling through the comparative analysis of the series She's Gotta Have It (2017), produced by the streaming platform Netflix and directed by Spike Lee. This proposal seeks to verify whether, after the translation process from English into Brazilian Portuguese, the creative subtitling present in the object of study achieved the same effects initially intended in its target language. Therefore, based on the initial bibliography, Towards a multidisciplinary approach in creative subtitling by Rebecca McClarty (2012), Eye Tracking, Subtitling and Accessible Filmmaking by Pablo Romero-Fresco (2018), and the essay Towards a creative approach in subtitling: a case study by Anna Foerster (2010) contained in New Insights into Audiovisual Translation and Media Accessibility by Jorge Díaz Cintas, Anna Matamala and Josélia Neves (2010), the bibliography Creative Subtitling Bibliography (2020) by Sarah Maitland and David Heath among others, an analysis will be made on creative subtitling in the context of audiovisual translation and how its use influences viewers' reaction when consuming such media. Finally, a survey of other audiovisual products that use creative subtitles will be carried out, attempting to compare the approaches used when translating such works. (AU)
